Building Organizational Capacity

What does it take for a small or starup nonprofit to ramp up? What does "organizational capacity" even mean, and how do you get it? Our presenter will share some fundamentals about how to build an inclusive and impactful organization from scratch. She'll start with four dimensions of organizational impact: leadership, strategy, culture, and brand / strategic position. When those are aligned, groups have the best chance of having the mission-driven results they desire. Participants will also consider six specific capacities: strategic, governance, programmatic, financial, collaborative, and operational which make up the various types of skills, knowledge, and networks that groups need to succeed. Please come prepared to share what's working for your organization, and hear about experiences with multiple nonprofit groups over the years.

Note that this training is designed for small or startup nonprofits, though everyone is welcome to participate.

Presented by Allison Handler of Solid Ground Consulting.

Since 2007, Allison Handler has worked with nonprofit organizations and local governments on strategic planning, organizational assessment, business development, fundraising planning and financial feasibility. She loves nonprofit management consulting: helping groups - sometimes on the fly - work through a thorny patch to see a clear road ahead. She knows the challenges firsthand, having been in the nonprofit and public sector trenches. As a nonprofit board leader, executive director and staff member, she has wrestled with the same kinds of issues and questions as many of Solid Ground's clients.
