ECM Education Series - Business Model Canvas 101

Business plans guide the entrepreneur’s strategy, help them raise capital, test their assumptions, and convey important ideas to others. Too often entrepreneurs get caught in the weeds writing lengthy plans before testing basic logic behind their business model. Often ideas have not been tested on real people, and they may not understand their value proposition, cost drivers, and revenue streams. Business Model Canvas is accepted worldwide as an essential business startup tool that helps would-be business owners clear those hurdles.

In this course, you will:
Learn where the Business Model Canvas came from, what it is, and how you can help small business owners use the tools to test their ideas and plan a strategy for success.
Practice how to assist a client through the Business Model Canvas approach.
Discuss the importance and relevance of encouraging clients to step out of their office and test their idea with real customers.
Differentiate the Business Model Canvas and traditional business planning approaches and discover how they can fit together.
Identify resources and share stories of how we have helped clients use this tool to develop and grow successful small businesses.
Ground this new approach in the Acadia Entrepreneurship Centre's Entrepreneurial Decision Making Cycle.

Business Model Canvas 101 is for Business Development Professionals (counselors, consultants, business coaches, and advisors who work with small business clients to develop, maintain, and expand their businesses. It will be especially helpful for those professionals who work with clients at the start-up stage, or whose clients are attempting to build scalable businesses.

This interactive online learning environment engages with the facilitator and other participants throughout the training session, offering the opportunity to apply the theory presented in the workshop. Upon completion of the course you will receive resources and will develop skills that have practical and immediate application for everyday use with your clients.
