Therapeutic Yoga for Injuries

Saturday, April 28th

w/ Missy Williamson

12:30-2:30 PM

Cost: $35

This workshop will examine common injuries on and off the mat. Many injuries happen because of nonoptimal body mechanics and posture that have become our habitual movements due repetition throughout our everyday lives. In this two hour workshop, we will discuss the importance of the core and glutes in movement, learn about hydration of connective tissue for increasing range of motion, and practice functional movements in yoga & learn how to apply this in everday movements off the mat.

Missy's Bio:

I was introduced to yoga in 2011 by a wonderful friend who encouraged me to try a class. Since then, I began taking a beginner’s workshops to learn more about the practice. These first classes and workshops that I took were at YogaLove! From then on, I fell in love with the practice of yoga. It wasn’t until I went through a period of darkness that the practice became a way of life for me. Yoga really saved me, by helping me have a reason to get out of the bed in the morning and keeping my body and mind connected and healthy. And so, I have been eager to get on the mat and learn and grow through this practice. Now, I’m excited to share my new knowledge with the world! I finished my 200-hour teacher training at YogaStream in Princeton, NJ with a physical therapist. Through this training, I learned the importance to discuss not only the wonderful and amazing aspects of the physical yoga practice, but also explain the risks, and really emphasize proper alignment and intelligent movements. Also through this teacher training, I learned the importance of love and compassion, on and off the mat. I learned that a deeper connection and understanding of the alignment of the body and how it is moving through space creates a deeper connection between the body and the mind, which also helped me liven my own spirit. Yoga is a way of life, and it has transformed mine, by helping me become more and more aware every single day, during practice and out in the world. My mission in teaching is to teach awareness through the body. Awareness is key to making good decisions, having strong relationships with ourselves and others, and making changes in the world.
