BUILDING A GREAT ELEVATOR PITCH

What is an “elevator pitch” and why is it important to your business? An elevator pitch is a brief speech that outlines an idea you have for a product, service, or project. It helps you to visualize how you will introduce yourself and describe your business, which you deliver in a short period of time similar to an elevator ride, usually in 30-60 seconds. You can also use the elevator pitch to break the ice and introduce yourself and your business in a very positive way.

This workshop will cover the meaning of an elevator pitch, why it is important to your business, what you want to communicate about your business, defining who your audience is, promoting your value proposition, how you can generate a call to action, and what the 30-second and 1-minute “commercial” looks like.

The workshop will also include breakout time to allow participants the chance to create their own elevator pitches, role play with other participants, and present their final pitches to the audience.

This workshop is co-sponsored by SCORE Boston and the Harvard Ed Portal.  It will be presented by Kristin Polito. Kristin Polito is an accomplished finance executive, former higher education administrator, and university adjunct professor at Suffolk University whose experience encompasses developing enterprise initiatives and strategies to strengthen corporate positioning and industry standing while boosting revenues. Through her work as a certified mentor and counselor with SCORE Boston, she has provided consulting expertise to over 80 entrepreneurs and startup companies in the biotech, mobile technology, and clean energy space. Kristin has also worked in the venture capital industry with biotech, high-tech, telecom, semiconductor and other startups, as well as counseling early-stage entrepreneurs. In addition, she recently presented a series of elevator pitch talks called Pitch Perfect for Businesstown.com. Kristin joined Copley Global Services, LLC in July, 2016. As Managing Director of Investment, she provides financial expertise and oversees the capital fundraising efforts for the firm’s clean energy projects in the areas of renewable energy, focusing on Kenya, East Central Africa, South Africa, and other developing countries.
