A Balanced Heart: Compassion and Equanimity

Meditation Retreat with

Susie Harrington

Through Insight meditation practice, we are given the opportunity to see the habits of mind that keep us isolated from our experiences and the world. As we dismantle these patterns, our hearts soften, our capacity to see clearly increases, and we are touched and can touch the world more directly. To be touched is a blessing, to be alive and connected is a tender and transformative experience. Equanimity in combination with compassion allows us to be connected and heartful, while also maintaining balance as we experience the joys and sorrows of ourselves and the world we care about.

On this weekend retreat we will explore seeing clearly the truth of things as they are and doing so with a balanced and compassionate heart. This silent meditation retreat will have sitting and walking practice, as well a small group meetings with the teacher and dharma talks. It is suitable for beginners and those with experience.

Susie Harrington teaches meditation in the USA and Canada and is the guiding teacher for Desert Dharma, which serves many communities in the Southwest near her home in Moab, Utah. She has trained in the Insight tradition since 1989, and in 2005 was invited into teaching by Jack Kornfield, Joseph Goldstein, and Guy Armstrong. She has also received teachings from many others, including Tory Capron, Adyashanti, and Tsoknyi Rinpoche. She often offers retreats outside, believing nature to be a profound teacher, and a gateway to our true self. Her teaching is deeply grounded in the body and often emphasizes the expression of mindfulness in speech and daily life. Susie brings the skills of inquiry, relational dharma, and the psychological/spiritual interface to her teaching, informed by her ongoing study of the Diamond Approach by A.H.Almaas and as a graduate of Hakomi Therapy (a somatic psychotherapy modality).
