In this FREE workshop for LGBTQ+ adults and teens, learn personal safety and self-defense skills to protect yourself and your loved ones from violence, bullying, harassment, and abuse.
As concern about identity-based violence grows, empower yourself with skills to take charge of your safety. You'll practice skills to de-escalate, prevent, or leave possible danger, including ways to stay calm and focused in the face of intensive verbal attack. You'll also practice 'emergency-only; physical self-defense skills on a head-to-toe padded instructor.
In this workshop, you'll practice how to:
* Recognize the typical pattern of an attack
* Use skills to interrupt the pattern early
* Project awareness, calm, and confidence
* Take charge in a verbal confrontation
* Overcome the Bystander Effect and get help
* Stay calm in the face of threats, hate language, and intense verbal attack
* Use physical self-defense as a last resort

Pre-registration is required as there is limited space.
This workshop is not appropriate for people under the age of 13.
Teens age 13-17 are encouraged to attend yet must be enrolled by a parent/guardian who also completes the legal waiver in advance of the workshop.
