Duke Energy Hosting Homeschool
Nature Trail Hike in April  

Homeschoolers ages 8-12 are encouraged to register for the EnergyExplorium nature trail hike on Tuesday, May 22 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Led by two certified master naturalists, the theme will focus on terrestrial ecosystems on the edge of Lake Norman. This event is being held as part of Duke Energy's sponsorship in the NC Science Festival celebrated during the month of April .

Things to remember before registering: 

• Registration is limited. Each person will be able to register up to two children max. This allows more participation amongst different families. 
• This event is open to ages 8-12 only.
• Parents do not have to stay, but are more than welcome. 
• Everyone going on the nature trail hike should wear fully-closed shoes - no sandals or flip flops will be allowed. 
• Full length pants are also required - no shorts. 
• Be sure to think about any outdoor allergies prior to registering. 
• Have lunch with the naturalists immediately after the event. Be sure to pack a lunch. This will be your chance to ask any additional questions.

Founded in 2010, the North Carolina Science Festival is the first statewide science festival in the United States.  During a two-week celebration each spring, the Festival brings hundreds of events (hosted by schools, colleges, libraries, museums, parks, businesses and other community organizations) together under one banner to recognize the economic, educational and cultural impact of science throughout North Carolina. The Festival is presented by the Biogen Foundation and produced by Morehead Planetarium and Science Center at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
