Wednesdays on the Wissahickon May 2
Enjoy a 5 - 7 mile hike on various trails in the Wissahickon with trained leader Liz Fox.
Meet at 10:30 am at Germantown and Rex Avenues, across from the Chestnut Hill West station, and 2 or 3 blocks from the Chestnut Hill East station.
This is the closest you can come to a real wilderness experience within the Philadelphia city limits. The trails are marked, but they go up and down and occasionally across streams, rocks and hills. Deer, fox and raccoons as well as numerous birds live in this park.
Bring a day pack, containing a rain jacket with hood, light sweater or fleece jacket, lunch and at least one quart of water. Wear synthetics or wool, no cotton. Hiking boots or sturdy walking shoes are fine. If you have any balance problems bring one or two hiking sticks.
To go on this hike you ought to be able to walk 5-7 miles and to climb 2 stories of steps without stopping or gasping for breath.
Leader, Liz Fox, is a trained Appalachian Mountain Club hike and backpack leader. She has numerous loaner day packs and walking sticks for those who want to try the hike before making any investments.
Participants are required to sign a release of liability at the start of the hike.
