Mental illness in Canada affects not only individual's quality of life, but also our economy.

  • According to the Canadian Mental Health Association the cost of mental illnesses to the Canadian economy is $51 billion a year
  • Each week 500,000 Canadians miss work due to a mental health issue

As an employer or employment service provider you may be unsure how to help your colleagues or clients who may have a mental illness.

Workforce Planning Hamilton and partners are presenting a half day workshop that will provide resources that you can use immediately.

Meet our keynote speaker, Nick Petrella

 A Mohawk College professor and mental health advocate, Nick will share his personal experience with depression and anxiety.

His goal is to raise awareness for mental health and break the stigma associated with mental illness



You'll have the chance to attend one of two workshops

Workshop A: Workplace Mental Health: An Introduction
You will improve your mental health literacy and awareness, and better understand stigma associated with mental health issues. You'll come to understand that workplace mental health is fundamental to the safety, health and well-being of our workforce.

Workshop B: Recognizing when clients/employees are unwell due to mental health issues

An interactive workshop will be presented on the topic of recognizing when someone is unwell due to Mental Health and strategies you can use to mediate until mental health professionals can intercede.  

Presenter: Catherine Howson, Catholic Family Services

Mental Health Information Fair
