Adventures in Literacy!

Come spend a week exploring gardens through literature, writing, and cooperative literacy activities! Taught by Ms. Hobbs and Mrs. Hoch, the class will take advantage of the summer weather with outdoor learning opportunities at the OLG campus and neighboring High Point Park. We will provide leveled differentiation, including phonics, phonemic awareness, and sight word skill development, as well as challenging enrichment activities for students of every level. Our hopes are to help students continue to grow as readers/ writers and keep them excited about literacy as they enter the summer months. Activities will be based on the Common Core Standards for English Language Arts.

Rocket Camp 

  • Incoming Grades 3-6
  • 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM
  • $350 / Taught by Ms. Savio

Campers will design, build and launch stomp rockets, balloon rockets, water rockets, soda straw rockets and more!  They will learn about the concept of lift and experiment with designs to optimize their rocket flights.  In addition, campers will discover the theories and principles behind solar cooking and harness the energy of the sun to cook in two different kinds of solar ovens, one that they will build themselves! 

Produce a Food and Travel Show

  • Incoming Grades 6-9
  • 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM
  • $390 (Lunch included everyday) / Taught by Mr. Santos

This weeklong intensive camp combines busing to four Seattle neighborhoods, taking walking tours, eating at four local restaurants and producing a television show based on our experiences. Students will learn: basics of video production, including script writing and filming; information about some of Seattle’s neighborhoods (possibilities include the International District, University District, Fremont, Ballard, Columbia City, Pioneer Square or others); and some of the great foodie spots of Seattle. We’ll practice creative and descriptive writing based on our first hand experiences.

Tumbling

  • Ages 5 to Incoming Grade 2
  • 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
  • $175  / Taught by Mrs. Powell

Students will improve in body awareness and confidence while learning basic tumbling skills such as somersaults, cart wheels head stands, hand stands, and bridges.  They will also improve in strength and flexibility.  Students will perform their skills on Friday 11:00 am – 12:00 pm.

Dance Blast

  • Incoming 1st-9th Grade
  • 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM
  • $180  / Taught by Nikki Womac

A fun high energy dance class open to all levels.  Students will learn dance technique, choreography skills and the behind-the-scenes of theater and dance.  No experience necessary.
