"I Didn't Know What To Do"
Examining Issues of Race, Privilege, and Bias

This interactive workshop will help participants explore strategies for facilitating critical conversations with students and colleagues. Participants will engage in personal reflection and examine some common beliefs and biases that can affect their ability to engage in productive conversations. They will learn strategies for creating supportive learning environments that encourage risk-taking during critical conversations. Finally, they’ll investigate methods of teaching about implicit bias, race and other critical topics.

Objectives:

  • Reflect on personal assumptions and implicit bias.
  • Identify strategies and resources to help students explore their own identities and the identities of others.
  • Integrate anti-bias attitudes and beliefs into curriculum and school goals.
  • Gain tools for facilitating conversations about race, racism and other critical topics.

Audience: Administrators, Principals, and Teachers

Facilitator: Amy Meilk
