Save The Date: 18th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. CommUNITY Breakfast and Day of Sharing on January 21, 2019.

The Martin Luther King CommUNITY of the Greater Kennett Area will present the 18th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. CommUNITY Breakfast on Monday, January 21, 2019.  The breakfast is an opportunity to celebrate Dr. King's legacy of love and service and be inspired to live out his dream today in our community and throughout the world.  Our 2019 theme is "Diversity is our Strength."  Check back for the announcement of this year's keynote speaker.

Last year’s keynote speaker was Bishop Dwayne D. Royster, the Political Director of the PICO National Network and the Senior Pastor/Founder Emeritus of the Living Water United Church of Christ. He has extensive organizing, advocacy, political and faith leadership experience.  He is the former Executive Director of POWER (Philadelphians Organized to Witness, Empower and Rebuild) and a former councilman at large for the Municipality of Norristown.  Bishop Royster also serves as the Founder of the Society for Faith and Justice, an ecumenical religious order committed to a charism of social justice as spiritual discipline and spiritual practice.  He provided a powerful message on this year's theme, "Social Justice Through the Power of Compassion," and shared some of his thoughts on Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.  Click here if you would like to see and hear his remarkable speech.

There will also be opportunities to volunteer in the afternoon in the 2019 Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Sharing.  Please let us know of your interest  by sending an email to dayofsharing@mlkcommunity.org.  Click here for list of volunteer opportunities . Feel free to contact the organizers for locations, times and further instructions.  Organizations may register their projects and request volunteers by clicking  here or the "Day of Service" button on the left.

There are many in our CommUNITY who are hungry. If you are able, please bring nonperishable food items to the Breakfast for the Kennett Food Cupboard or click  to donate to our "Change for Change" campaign for the benefit of the Kennett Food Cupboard and the Avon-Grove Bridge Food Pantry.  We are committed to eradicating hunger in our community. Our CommUNITY Food Drive  will again span two weeks in March 2019.  Join our mailing list for more information.

Be sure to come back later to learn of our 2019 speaker and  to purchase and print your breakfast ticket(s).  You will also be able to obtain tickets by calling the offices of the Borough of Kennett Square, 610-444-6020, ext. 108, during regular business hours, located at 120 Marshall Street, Kennett Square.   Mark your calendars now and plan on attending the Breakfast on Monday, January 21, 2019, for this inspiring community celebration.

Proceeds of the Breakfast benefit scholarships for graduating seniors at Kennett, Unionville and Avon Grove High Schools and Lincoln University, summer opportunities for disadvantaged children at Camp Cadet, MLK Advocates Forums, and support for projects that promote equality, justice, peace and the eradication of poverty in the Kennett Square area.
