Memorial Tree Walk in Honor of
Memorial Day

What species of tree watched over the battle of Gettysburg? Why was the American Holly so important to George Washington? What do Osage Oranges and "Give me liberty or give me death" have in common?

In honor of Memorial Day, Arboretum Naturalist Bob Chicken will be conducting a memorial walk of trees on the Arboretum grounds. Guests will be exploring species we have here that are the same as ones planted for Medal of Honor recipients in the Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia. The trees in Arlington are descendants of trees that are attributed to people and events that shaped our nation's history such as Henry Ford, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Washington Crossing the Delaware. This free walk will begin at 9:30am is approximately an hour long.
