Inclusive Growth Community of Practice Launch 

To help contribute to the achievement of Scottish Government’s twin objectives of boosting competitiveness whilst tackling inequality, EDAS is launching a new Inclusive Growth Community of Practice to help members and other stakeholders improve practice in this area.

Such a community will provide opportunities to explore ways of improving economic outcomes to enhance wellbeing, quality of life and equity in society.  It will provide a platform to help economic development practitioners to share learning on how best to stimulate a growing economy that is more inclusive.  

The community aims to -

(i)                  Share lessons from experience to shape and improve practice.

(ii)                 Provide opportunities for engagement and speaker input to aid a better understanding of policy initiatives, theory and ideas.

(iii)               Provide a conduit to feed back lessons and insights, themes and issues, from practitioners who are responsible for delivering this agenda on the ground.

(iv)               Build on and contribute to other initiatives in this area.

An overview of Scottish Government policy and economic strategy and observations and lessons learned from a long career working on people and place-based regeneration.  Alan will also share news of a new Inclusive Growth CPD course he is developing with EDAS.

14:40    Rhetoric versus Reality - Poverty in Scotland and the Impact of Inequality on People's Lives

Dr David Waite, Research Associate, Glasgow City Deal (Urban Studies), University of Glasgow

An overview of inclusive growth, the factors and issues it presents at city-region and neighbourhood levels, and questioning the impact of silos on policy design and delivery (with reference to recent policy-related research).
