Stella Samuel is an author, scriptwriter, and mother.
The Power Ranch Young Writers Summer 2018 Workshop will focus on three creative pieces.
The writers meet twice a week over five weeks of summer break.

Workshop Pieces:

FLASH FICTION
Fiction in a flash.
A moment in time.
A snapshot of a larger story.

Week one will focus on Flash Fiction based on a writing prompt. We will talk about the nature of a flash piece, learn about what makes flash different from short stories, and learn how to show not tell using an active voice. Then we will edit our pieces keeping only words which make the short piece succinct.

CREATIVE NONFICTION
Everyday life living creatively.

In Creative Nonfiction, we will take one event from the student’s life and retell the story with creativity and sensory details. With focus on details, cause and effect, and showing details, this workshop is perfect to get the creative process flowing.

SHORT STORY
Longer than a flash, the short story has a longer arc with a definite resolution to the initial struggle. With skills from writing creatively and keeping stories succinct, Stella's short story workshop will end with a short story focused on plot, story, and character arc with beginning, middle, and end.

The 2018 Power Ranch Young Writers Workshop will build upon:
•      Creativity
•      Finding a theme
•      Choosing a motif
•      Creating an arc
•      Succinct writing
•      Show not tell
•      Having fun
•      Telling the best story we can
•      Improve writing skills for school by writing creatively.
•      Write a little all summer long for a better start to the new school year.

After workshop wraps, Stella will format each workshop
piece into one collective proof book each student will receive.
