Part I: “Let’s Talk About Race!”: Creating a racially conscious classroom 

 

Race is part of everyone's story in the United States.  However, as a subject related to professional development, it is rarely talked about.  To start this much needed conversation in our field this training will: 

 Explain how the social construction of race is not of biological significance. 

  • Learn some activities that teach young children the aesthetics of all hair, skin, and bones. 
  • Explore some language for talking to children about race while holding respect for the racial identity of families.  
  • Look at some real consequences of race related to outcomes for children in the state of Texas.
