_____________________________________________________________________________________
Course Overview:
This workshop is a 1/2-day course that provides participants with a clear understanding of Open Education Resources (OER), Creative Commons Licensing (CC) and the search and discovery of OER from international repositories and affordable learning solution portals. It focuses on search strategies that enable participants to discover multimedia learning resources and open textbook for online course design. Participants will develop OER collections and Teaching Portfolios using the MERLOT Content Builder.
Course Objectives:
By completing this course, learners will be able:
REFERENCES TO LEARN MORE
We have compiled a series of references relevant to this workshop.
Open Education Resources - Quality Matter Compilation
A Textbook Zero degree - Tidewater Community College will launch a pilot project this fall aimed at easing the pain of soaring textbook costs for college students.
Saving and Student Success
Tidewater Community College has saved students $1 million with its zero-textbook-cost degree program. An added bonus: course retention and grades are rising.
Galileo Open Learning Material
This is an initiative from Affordable Learning Georgia sharing faculty and etextbook course portfolios from the system's internal grants to promote OER.
Leveraging MERLOT - We compiled excellent resources showcasing the MERLOT (Multimedia Education Resources for Learning and Online Teaching) collection of OER. This is contributed by the Southern University COLP.
MERLOT Content Builder - MERLOT is releasing a new interface design for its popular Web development tool, Content Builder. Originally built and supported by the Carnegie Foundation
The Open Educational Resources (OER) Degree Initiative seeks to boost college access and completion, particularly for underserved students, by engaging faculty in the redesign of courses and degree programs through the replacement of proprietary textbooks with open educational resources.

EPORTFOLIO SHOWCASES
CSU Faculty E-portfolio Showcases
Welcome to the CSU Course Redesign with Technology ePortfolio Showcase. Discover faculty created ePortfolios documenting their course redesign experiences and accomplishments by entering a search term or browsing by discipline.
At colleges and universities across the country, students increasingly are using online simulations, animation and other technologies to replicate — and, some say, improve upon — the hands-on experience of a typical lab.
