Recovery Coach Academy for Young Adults

More and more the population of persons seeking recovery from an addiction is getting younger and younger. Coaches who can speak the language of a younger generation can greatly impact their access to sustained long term recovery.

Join us this summer to attend and stay on UConn's Storrs Campus!

CART has developed the CCAR Recovery Coach AcademyŠ for Young Adults to enhance the skills of those individuals who will be supporting young adults on their recovery journey.  We believe this ground-breaking training program is one of the best available for those interested in recovery coaching young people. This course will provide you with the knowledge and skills necessary to guide and mentor others through their own recovery process and is open to everyone – people in recovery, family members, friends and allies.  Much like the journey of recovery, this training offers a transformational experience.   This innovative new training will be delivered as three days live and two days online.

Participants in this course will learn to:

  • Describe the roles and functions of a recovery coach
  • List the fundamental principles of recovery coaching
  • Explore different definitions and pathways of recovery
  • Build communication skills to enhance relationships
  • Discover attitudes about self-disclosure & sharing your story
  • Understand the role of belief systems and values in the coaching relationship
  • Describe the different roles and applications for recovery coaching
  • Increase awareness of culture, power & privilege
  • Address ethical & boundary issues
  • Experience recovery wellness planning
  • Practice newly acquired skills

Participants can chose to stay onsite at UConn during August 8-10, 2018.  All meals, rooms and parking is covered by the registration fees.  There are three different options:

Commuter - lunch and parking each day

Double Room - A shared room, three meals and parking each day

Single Room - A single room, three meals and parking each day

We also invite any interested participants to attend the optional Train the Trainer Program for an additional fee.

CART would like to thank the UConn Recovery Community for making offering the accommodations so we could make this special opportunity more affordable for visiting students!
