Smoke-free Campaigns: Making Your Community a Better Place to BREATHE

100% smoke-free policies are a vaccine to protect your community from heart and lung diseases and cancer. Is your community ready for a smoke-free law? Discover policy change strategies that work.

At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will be able to:
  • Discuss the population health benefits of 100% smoke-free laws.
  • Apply a tested policy advocacy model to taking action for smoke-free laws.
  • Describe common opportunities and challenges to smoke-free policy advocacy.

The Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky is pleased to co-sponsor this workshop as part of their Health for a Change training series. There is no charge to attend the workshop

Participants who register for the workshop and do not attend will be charged a $75 cancellation fee. Participants who cancel their registration on or before 5PM ET on Monday Sept. 21, 2018 will have the fee waived. The Presenter 

Ellen J. Hahn, PhD, RN, FAAN is an Alumni Professor in the Colleges of Nursing and Public Health at the University of Kentucky (UK) in Lexington. She holds the Marcia A. Dake Endowed Professorship in the College of Nursing. Dr. Hahn is Deputy Director for UK-CARES (Center for Appalachian Research in Environmental Sciences) and Leader of the Community Engagement Core. Dr. Hahn directs the Kentucky Center for Smoke-free Policy and the BREATHE (Bridging Research Efforts and Advocacy Toward Healthy Environments) research team in the College of Nursing. Dr. Hahn and her colleagues have assisted many of Kentucky’s 46 communities to go smoke-free.

Ohio chemical dependency counselors and prevention specialists: This program has been approved to offer Continuing Education Units(CEU) by the State of Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board. Approved Provider # 50-17807

Certified health education specialists: This program has been approved to offer Continuing Education Contact Hours (CECH) by The National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc. Multiple Event Provider # 101535.

After program completion, program attendees who requested CEUs will be emailed a certificate of attendance noting CEUs awarded.
