OADSP/DODD Development Trainings

OADSP and DODD have partnered to offer a series of DSPATHS training modules FREE of charge!  Please see descriptions below.

Session 1: A Closer Look at Autism -9:30am- 12:30pm

According to the Center for Disease Control, approximately 1 in 68 children are diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder, making it the fastest growing developmental disability in the United States.  Students in this class will discuss the common characteristics of types of autism found under the diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) including how ASD is diagnosed and its prevalence.  The specific challenges common to people who experience ASD will be discussed in detail with a focus on how a direct support professional might provide effective supports to a person with ASD.

Session 2: Trauma Response -1:30pm - 4:30pm

People with developmental disabilities experience significantly higher rates of trauma.  This class is designed to develop skills to identify and consider a person’s history of traumatic experiences as a means to gain insight into origins and patterns of their actions.  The class then focuses on developing skills to support people that have experienced trauma in a manner that promotes healing, recovery, and emotional wellbeing based on understanding.

Please note that you can attend one or both sessions!
