Compass Learning 2018 Series 3 - Algal Bloom Forecast 2018 with Dr. Chris Winslow

  • What will be the lake's condition this summer and fall?
  • What is causing this problem?
  • What efforts are in place to help solve it?
  • What should I say to visitors who ask about the issue?

In early July, Ohio Sea Grant and NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) will release their annual algal bloom forecast. Attend this important session to get the basics on algal blooms, efforts to control them, and details about the forecast and what it means for accessing the lake over the remainder of the year.

In addition, Lake Erie Shores & Islands' Marketing & Communications Director Bryan Edwards will provide you with tips on how best to address visitor questions about the blooms. All attendees will receive an updated algal bloom talking points document.

Ohio Sea Grant and Stone Lab have been invested in studying harmful algal blooms and related issues for many years. Dr. Chris Winslow has been a fixture at the organization since 2004, first as an instructor and research supervisor, and now as the Director of both the Lab and the Ohio Sea Grant College Program.
