"Mixed and Virtual Reality in Healthcare Education"

Abstract:
1. Large group interactive presentation and demonstration

2. Individual Mixed Reality experience of anatomy models

3. Large group discussion of application of virtual and mixed reality in healthcare education

Goals:

  1. Review differences between full virtual reality and mixed reality
  2. Summarize benefits of MR and VR in Healthcare education
  3. List 3 potential applications of MR/VR in healthcare education

Preparation:
Consider the following questions:

  1. What are the disadvantages of using cadavers for anatomy education?
  2. Is the anatomy learned in cadaver lab useful for future surgeons?
  3. What educational outcomes do we hope to achieve by teaching anatomy (e.g. anatomy of the nervous system)?  What are the best methods for achieving those outcomes?
