About This Training:
The Virginia Oral Health Coalition and the Virginia Department of Health are offering this free course for community health workers, family educators, and associated staff serving Danville residents, particularly adults with chronic disease; pregnant women; and families with infants, toddlers, and school age children. This training will provide crucial information to address the “silent epidemic” of dental disease. Participants will learn the most current evidence-based information about: basic oral health care, oral disease prevention, how to navigate the system of care for oral health, and opportunities to influence policy to increase access to oral health coverage.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the connection between oral health and overall health for young children, pregnant women and adults, and identify diseases linked to poor dental care.
  • Identify and share at least one prevention strategy for good oral health in young children, pregnant women and adults.
  • Understand the system of care for oral health, including eligibility for publicly-funded oral health coverage, what dental benefits are available in public programs, and opportunities to advocate for improved access to oral health care and coverage

Speakers
Sarah Bedard Holland, CEO, Virginia Oral Health Coalition
Kami Piscitelli, BSDH, RDH, Special Needs Oral Health Coordinator, Virginia Department of Health
