Part 1: Morning Session: Behavior Management in the Classroom and Functional Behavioral Assessment, Presenter: Dr. Jennifer Zarcone, Ph.D, BCBA

This training focuses on tools for managing children with problem behavior in educational and other learning settings. Specific information on using functional behavioral assessment, function-based interventions, data collection, and working collaboratively with a team are discussed. Special emphasis is placed on classroom-wide systems of positive reinforcement of socially appropriate behaviors such as communication, compliance, and learning new skills.
This workshop is designed to help you: (1)Implement procedures and environmental supports to maximize positive outcomes for individual with behavior problems in social and educational settings; (2) Conduct functional behavioral assessments to use as a basis for developing individualized behavior plans; (3) Collect and use data to identify whether modifications to behavior intervention are effective.

Part 2: Afternoon Session:Working with Children with Emotional and Behavioral Problems in Schools: Prevention and Intervention Strategies,Presenter: Dr. Mirian Ofonedu, Ph.D, LCSW-C

This workshop will provide educators and other school professionals with practice elements aimed at promoting more effective interventions for students with or at-risk of emotional and behavioral problems (EBP). Practical strategies resulting in more effective outcomes in the prevention and management of students with EBP will be presented. Tools on how to develop effective communication and build home-school-community connections and how to bring the needs and capabilities of families of students with EBP into alignment with the demands and resources of the social system in which they are embedded will be discussed.
This workshop is designed to help you: (1)Recognize ways to support the positive growth of children with/or at-risk of EBP (2) Implement practical strategies for working with children with EBP and their families and (3) Develop effective communication and build home-school-community connections resulting in more positive social, emotional, and academic outcomes.

Kennedy Krieger Institute is approved by the American Psychological Association and the Board of Social Work Examiners in Maryland to sponsor continuing education for psychologists and Social Workers. Kennedy Krieger Institute maintains responsibility for this program and its content.  3.0 to 6.0 Continuing Education Credits (Category 1) will be granted to Social Workers and licensed psychologists. This seminar reflects program content and is intended to meet the Maryland license requirement to enhance competence in the provision of psychological services to culturally diverse populations. There is no fee for participants. No conflicts have been identified.
