Make Your Own Nature Journal:
A Bookbinding Workshop
In this workshop, you'll make your own casebound journal that can be used for nature journaling. The pages of the journal will be mixed media paper, so your journal can be used for pencil drawing, pen & ink, or watercolor.
No experience is necessary. You will learn to cover book boards with decorative paper and bookcloth, fold and stitch signatures of pages, and attach the pages to the covers. At the end of the workshop, you'll take home a 5"x7" (approx.) blank journal.
All materials and tools will be provided, although you are welcome to bring your own decorative paper for the cover of your book.
Instructor: Nora Bernhardt has created handmade books and boxes for over twenty years, and she restores damaged and worn books, as well. In 2010, Nora received a MakeWork grant from Create Here to support her book arts interests. She founded, and for several years led, the Chattanooga Book Arts Collaborative until it became part of The Open Press in downtown Chattanooga.
This workshop will be held at The Open Press 1271 Market Street. The entrance to The Open Press is in the rear bay of the Firestone Tire building at the corner of Market and 13th Street—across from Urban Stack restaurant. The entrance to the free parking lot is on the northeast corner of 13th & Cowart St. On-street parking is also available.
Registration Policy: Class size for this workshop is limited. To give everyone the best opportunity to participate, there is a non-refundable cancellation fee of $10, with the balance refunded if you cancel at least 7 calendar days before the class will be held. If the class is cancelled by the instructor or by Wild Ones, workshop registrants will get a full refund.
