Alaska School Safety & Well-Being Summit 

Positive school climate. Trauma-engaged practice. Supported mental health. Safe schools.

Event Description

Educational leaders, key staff, and strategic stakeholders, including representation from every district across the state will convene to improve school safety in Alaska by both learning and sharing methods to: promote healthy development through trauma-engaged and restorative practices, improve school climate, and be better prepared for any possible school crisis.

Deadline to register: Friday, August 31, 2018 by 5:00 pm.

Overview

The Summit objectives include the following:
  • Establish/strengthen a shared understanding of comprehensive school safety and well-being
  • Acquire concrete tools and skills for implementation of best practices for school safety
  • Build peer connections, identify community resources, and exchange ideas and information that advance awareness of school mental health and wellness.
Key topics include, but are not limited to, restorative practices, positive school climate, suicide prevention, counseling and mental health, social emotional learning, trauma-engaged practices, school safety, safety related district plans and policies, Youth Mental Health First Aid, and the Alaska Safe Children's Act.
 

Attendees

District teams may include a maximum of 6 Superintendent-approved team members; Alternative Schools maximum not included in that total. Alternative Schools may include a maximum of 3 Principal-approved team members.
