Crystalline Silica Competent Person Training for the Construction Industry - 4 Hour Course

Michelle McIntyre, MPH, CIH, CSP one of GFA's Industrial Hygienists will provide 4 hours of training on the new OSHA Crystalline Silica Regulation for the Construction Industry which requires that companies who are required to comply with the regulation establish a "Silica Competent Person".  Competency is established by training and authorization from the employer. 

This course  is designed for employees who will be designated by their employer as the silica competent person and who will be implementing the silica exposure control plan on the jobsites.  This course is taught by a Board Certified Industrial Hygienist/Certified Safety Professional.  The four-hour class will cover:

Identifying the materials, products and tasks that can create silica hazards

Reviewing safety data sheets and product information

Respirable crystalline silica health risks

The medical surveillance program

Proper personal protective equipment, and appropriate hygiene practices

Detailed review of OSHA regulation on respirable crystalline silica including the applicability of Table 1

The responsibilities of the competent person

Writing the Silica Exposure Control Plan

Other OSHA regulations that are impacted by silica requirements

Exposure Monitoring and reviewing laboratory data

Attendees will receive a certificate of training after attending the course which can be applied toward the competency requirement. A light lunch will be provided.
