Course Description (Dr. Miller)
This course will review proper evaluation techniques and the most common reasons for lawsuits in dentistry. Contemporary discussions of the medical history, medications, proper assessment of the head and neck, vital signs, diagnostic tests, risk assessments, proper documentation and the legal deposition process are provided. In addition, common mistakes made by dental professionals, how lawsuits impact your office, reasons for errors, and how to avoid them are discussed. This course will improve your assessment skills and your attention to detail.

Dr. Miller is Professor of Oral Medicine, Microbiology, Immunology & Molecular Genetics at the University of Kentucky, Colleges of Dentistry and Medicine. He has authored more than 200 scientific articles, textbook chapters, and monographs regarding oral infections, dental pharmacology, dental management and oral manifestations of systemic disease.
He has co-authored three nationally and internationally acclaimed textbooks, the Color Atlas of Common Oral Diseases; Oral Diagnosis, Oral Medicine and Treatment Planning; and Dental Management of the Medically Compromised Patient. Dr. Miller serves as a consultant to the NIH and as an expert witness in legal matters, and has received lifetime achievement awards in Oral Medicine and Oral Diagnosis.
