GOODNOW FARM
for kids in grades 3 and up!
Goodnow Farm, Sudbury Mass.
Do you have a passion for Chocolate? Would you like to see how it is made? Owners Tom and Monica of Goodnow Farm in Sudbury make all of their bars on their 225 year old farm in Sudbury, Massachusetts. They start with cacao beans and sugar, and perform every step of the chocolate making process in-house, including carefully hand wrapping each bar.
They believe that great chocolate is “true to the bean,” in that the flavors apparent in the bar reflect the flavors hidden in the bean. The process of making this happen is extremely time consuming and labor intensive, but they believe the experience of eating Goodnow chocolate makes it all worthwhile.
Tom and Monica are very proud of their chocolate and we hope you enjoy eating it as much as they do making it. They have offered to give our Kids Cooking Green kids, a tour around the farm and the chocolate making facility! Kids will have a chance to see the raw beans, and sort them before they are roasted. Did you know that chocolate comes from a fruit? Learn what the term winnowing is, are how to make chocolate smooth by adding cocoa butter. And, of course, tasting on this tour is encouraged!
