The Soul Care Experience Retreat: May 29- June 2, 2019

The Soul Care Experience is our premier retreat! We offer this unique experiential learning opportunity combining the core pieces of Soul Care and Spiritual Formation that we feel are essential to our vitality at home, in ministry and the marketplace.

This experience will expose you to everything we at Potter's Inn are about in terms of values and practice offering participants an overview of spiritual formation and the care of your soul.  You'll live in a Benedicine Rhythm of life that is ancient yet very life-giving for modern times.

This retreat is ideal for pastors, missionaries, staff members, business leaders and individuals interested in learning more about deepening your walk and relationship with Jesus Christ. You will experience both challenging teaching on topics listed below as well as a restful retreat, gourmet meals and opportunity to fellowship with other guests who are like-minded.

Here's what we'll cover in the five day retreat:

  • Lectio Divina: How to read the Bible in a spiritual way
  • Introduction and practice of Fixed-Hour Prayer
  • What is the soul and how do we learn to care for our souls and the souls of others?
  • Rhythm of Life: Why this lost discipline is essential to the vitality of our soul
  • Sabbath Keeping: Regain proper perspective through this forgotten commandment
  • What is spiritual formation and how does it happen?
  • An overview of spiritual disciplines which are useful in our life with God.
  • Critical stages and phases of the spiritual life and how to break through "walls" that you have been hitting which prevent progress and growth.
  • Why Silence and Solitude are needed in the 21st century and how to use them to care for your soul.
  • How to live in community
  • We’ll be spending time in the great outdoors to enjoy what the ancients called “The Second book of God”—meaning beauty in nature and God’s glory all around.

"My husband and I were in a rough place in our marriage and ministry.  The rigors of daily life on top of the constant strain of leadership for 21 years in a church setting wore us down to a pretty thin place. We arrived at the Potter’s Inn tired, worn, wanting desperately a place to rest and seek guidance.  We received what we wanted and were embraced with love, care, and direction.  Walking the prayer paths surrounded by astounding beauty, we let rest sink deeply into our souls and got us to a place of quiet and peace.  Our Soul Care Experience set the course and trajectory for our next season of life and ministry together. We are forever grateful for The Potter’s Inn and the work they do to restore the souls of people like us, while humbly guiding and teaching a new way of living a sustainable life."

"Potter's Inn gave me a holy hunger.  In fact, the more I think about the stories, meals, fellowship, sacred space, and instruction the more homesick I become---for heaven."

"Our time at the “Soul Care Experience” at Potter’s Inn in October, 2011 was a foundational and formational experience for both my wife and I on a personal and professional level.  I had just begin a new role with our organization focusing on soul care and spiritual formation.  The “Soul Care Experience” helped shape much of my thinking and helped construct a model for the way we do retreats with the personnel of our organization.  I can’t express how much I appreciate my experience at Potter’s Inn and the ongoing relationship and mentorship that has developed with Steve and Gwen Smith.  I am confident you would find the “Soul Care Experience” to be a life changing experience for you as well."
