Dr. Mehmet Gurses will discuss the future of U.S. Turkey relations.
Speaker Profile:
Dr. Mehmet Gurses is Associate Professor and Chastain-Johnston Middle East Studies Distinguished Professor at Florida Atlantic University. He received his B.A. degree in political science and international relations from Marmara University in Istanbul, Turkey, and his doctorate from University of North Texas.
His research interests include democracy and democratization, ethnic and religious conflict, post-civil war peace building, post-civil war democratization, Kurdish politics, and the emergence and evolution of the Islamist parties in the Middle East.
He is the author of Anatomy of a Civil War: Sociopolitical Impacts of the Kurdish Conflict in Turkey and co-editor of Conflict, Democratization and the Kurds in the Middle East: Turkey, Iran, Iraq, and Syria.
His publications have appeared in International Interactions, Social Science Quarterly, Civil Wars, Defense and Peace Economics, Democratization, Party Politics, International Journal of Human Rights, Nationalism and Ethnic Politics, Conflict Management and Peace Science, and Political Research Quarterly. He is editor of the journal, Politics and Religion (Cambridge University Press).
He is fluent in Turkish and Kurdish with a basic knowledge of Arabic.
