Practical Tips for Safety Planning

Just as we prepare our clients and youth for a tornado drill, we must prepare them to handle a behavioral or social emergency. Join us for the morning as we discuss safety planning and how you can make a safety plan with your youth and clients.

Topics we will discuss in the morning session:

1. The importance of safety planning and specifically, why it's important to build these plans if you plan to be on vacation, or your youth will be going on a break.

2. Practical tips for making a safety plan in different situations like suicide, domestic violence, sexual abuse or agression.

3. This plan will help you and your clients/youth identify who can help them in an emergency and how to access services outside of their work with you.

This presentation will be led by Barb Carrasco, MSW, LCSW, CSAYC, and Team Leader of Oaklawn's Elkhart Child & Adolescent Outpatient Services.

The presentation will be from 8 - 9 a.m. and questions from 9 - 9:30 am.
