Denver Mountain Parks - includes HR's Daniel's Park

In the early days of the 20^th century Denver’s leaders understood the importance of parks for the quality of life in Denver. Their dedication to creating our park system is legendary.  Moreover, their understanding that one of Denver’s unique characteristics is its nearness to the cool air and open spaces of the Front Range foothills. In typical fashion, Denver took the remarkable step to build roads and parks outside of its own boundaries to provide for her citizens something no other city in America could. 

They created this with a voter-approved dedicated funding source, and the result was a 14 thousand acre necklace of parks from Lookout Mountain to Daniels Park and from Red Rocks to Mount Evans that are unparalleled in their popularity.  However, most people don't know much information about the parks.

W. Bart Berger is a fourth generation Denverite and Coloradoan. He is descended from the Kountze and Berger families; his maternal forebears include Colorado’s first three-term governor Alva Adams, Gov. Wm. H. “Billy” Adams, and US Senator Alva B. Adams. He was educated in Denver and is an avid historian, hiker, skier and outdoor education proponent.

Bart is founder of the non-profit Denver Mountain Parks Foundation, which he began in 2004 to raise awareness and money to revitalize the 106 years-old System in cooperation with the City of Denver. The foundation is currently involved in a campaign to restore the historic stone shelters in the parks as well as developing a series of interpretive signage and several outdoor educational programs for youth in the Denver Mountain Parks.
