Fitness Appraiser Education Day 

 

PFPO is hosting a Finess Appraiser Education Day on November 23, 2018 at the Toronto Police College. A nutrition break and a lunch will be provided. Participants are asked to bring thir own water bottles.

An agenda will be forwarded closer to the event date. Please note that registration and newtworking begins at 7am. The first speaker begins at 8 am.

Speakers:

Kevin Darby

Kevin is the founder of DTS Fitness Education and co-owner of Stretch to Win Canada.  He has been involved in structured physical conditioning programs for over 25 years.  He was a multi-sport athlete and represented Canada internationally as a member of the Canadian Military Pentathlon Team.   He has had a long and successful career as a leader in the fitness industry. He has been a head coach, personal trainer, wellness coordinator for a 7500+ member police service and has developed of multiple successful education programs.  He has worked with general population clients, amateur, Olympic and professional athletes in major sports leagues across North America.  He holds a B.Ed. and was a member of an award-winning research team led by Dr. Stuart McGill and was the canfitpro World Fitness Expo - Canadian Fitness Presenter of the year in 2014 and Specialty Presenter in 2017.   His core belief is knowledge is not power, it is the ability to apply knowledge that makes it powerful.

Dr. Martin Gibala

Dr. Gibala is a professor and chair of the Department of Kinesiology at McMaster University in Hamilton, Canada. He studies the beneficial effects of exercise at the molecular to whole-body level in both healthy individuals and people with chronic diseases. Gibala’s research on the physiological and health-related adaptations to interval training has attracted immense scientific attention and worldwide media coverage. He is the author of a bestselling book on the topic, The One-Minute Workout: Science Shows a Way to Get Fit That’s Smarter, Faster, Shorter.

Dr. Dan Moore

Dr. Moore is an assistant professor in the Faculty of Kinesiology and Physical Education at the University of Toronto whose research focuses on how exercise and nutrition can enhance muscle mass and functionality across the lifespan. His primary research aims to understand how the amount, type, and timing of dietary protein and amino acids help acutely rebuild skeletal muscle during recovery from exercise and chronically increase muscle and lean body mass with training.

Freyja Spence

Freyja has been active in the strength and conditioning industry for 12 years. Her passion for movement stems from her background of 20 years training in classical ballet . After achieving a pre-professional level in ballet, Freyja started to explore a myriad of other forms of movement including weightlifting, kettlebells, gymnastics, rock climbing, Animal Flow®, cycling, and running. Freyja is currently a competitive endurance athlete and trains both strength and endurance concurrently.Her wide array of clients include endurance athletes, professional ballet dancers, Olympic-level skaters, and the general population – all with the goal of better movement and increased performance. Freyja holds a BSc in Human Kinetics and over the years she has been involved in the development of kids fitness programs, fitness testing for lacrosse leagues, and injury rehabilitation at one of Canada’s largest sports clinics. With a passion for all things related to quality movement, performance and education, Freyja strives to inspire others to continue learning in order to live strong and injury-free. Freyja’s belief is that movement is truly medicine and can dramatically impact how we experience life for the better.

Jon Carson

Jon is a Constable with York Regional Police and assigned to the Training and Education Bureau – Academics Unit. He is currently assigned to handle the delivery of Crisis Intervention Training, communications, recruit training and the coach officer course.  He recently has begun the process of implementing Mindfulness Based Resiliency Training within his organization, with the motto “Train before the Trauma”.
