Imagine the impact...of hundreds of people of all ages and abilities going out to serve those in need with compassion in Jesus' name! Now mark your calendar for Saturday, October 6 and The Church Has Left The Building Serve Event! The ONE Legacy Initiative campus groundbreaking ceremony begins at 9:00 AM that morning and will conclude with a Serve Event prayer send off. At that time participants will receive a box lunch, t-shirt and immediately go out together into our community to serve with the love of Jesus!
Working with our area mission partners we have secured over fifteen different sites in Rochester, Pontiac and Detroit (see the list below). There truly is something for everyone and all ability levels! Most serve projects will last 2-4 hours of time and conclude no later than 3:00 PM. Serve Event Prayer Team
This group will first gather in our St. John Chapel to pray for those who are being served on this day, their neighborhoods and communities, and for Jesus' love for them to shine through the work of our volunteers. Participants on this team may remain on campus or go out to walk or drive through the neighborhood as they pray. This is a family-friendly serve opportunity appropriate for all ages.
Neighbor to Neighbor Food Collection
Bring your wagons for this family-friendly serve opportunity suitable for all ages! In follow up to postcard notifications going out to our neighbors, this group will collect non-perishable food items door-to-door in the area surrounding our St. John campus. The food will be donated to Rochester Neighborhood House and to the families of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Pontiac.
Care Package Assembly
If you have special needs and/or are looking for an opportunity to serve in a way that requires limited mobility this is the one! This group will gather on our St. John campus to assemble packages of personal care and food items for homeless families served by Hope Warming Center in Pontiac. This truly is a family-friendly serve opportunity appropriate for all ages and especially those with limited mobility.
Homebound Visitation
This group will make a difference in Jesus' name by making encouraging visits at local assisted living communities. This is a family-friendly serve opportunity appropriate for all ages.
Neighbor Yard Clean Up - Rochester
Multiple teams will be going out to assigned Rochester resident homes to assist with yard clean up. This is a family-friendly serve opportunity appropriate for all ages.
Park Clean Up - Pontiac
This group will assist with clean up at Mattie McKinney Hatchet Park in Pontiac. There will be police presence at the site. This is a family-friendly serve opportunity appropriate for all ages.
Facility Clean Up & Painting - St. Paul Lutheran Church, Pontiac
This group will go to the St. Paul Lutheran Church facility to assist with some outdoor clean up and indoor painting. Because of the nature of the work, this serve opportunity is recommended for ages 10 and up.
Resident Home Repair - Pontiac
There will be multiple teams assigned to go to several Pontiac resident homes to assist with home repairs. Residents in need are affiliated with St. Paul Lutheran Church, Pontiac. Because of the nature of the work, this serve opportunity is recommended for ages 10 and up.
Middle School and High School Neighborhood Clean Up - Detroit
Originally scheduled and rained out back in August, this rescheduled youth serve event will focus on outdoor clean up in specific Detroit neighborhood sites identified by Charity Lutheran Church, Detroit. There will be police presence at these sites. Limited to students grades 6-12.
