Atlantic Sports Health: Running Workshop

Beginner to Experienced Runners

 

Atlantic Sports Health is excited to partner with The Interfaith Food Pantry and the Literacy Volunteers of Morris County to support their Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot scheduled for Thanksgiving morning, Thursday, November 22nd at Ginty Field.

To help prepare community runners who are just starting out and those seasoned runners for fall racing, Atlantic Sports Health's team of sports medicine professionals have designed a program that includes some tips and tricks that can increase performance and decrease the chance for injury.

6:00-6:20pm: Welcome & Introduction, Adam Kahn, PA-c, ATC, Manager of Atlantic Sports Health

6:20-6:40pm: Sports Nutrition- What to eat and drink, when to eat and drink: Before, During & After Activity, Mary Finckenor, RD, CSSD

6:40-7:00pm: Building Strength For The Busy Runner- At Home Strengthening Techiques and Yoga Poses To Stretch and Strengthen, Kelsey Pengitore, ATC, 

7:00-7:30pm: Foam Rolling- Injury Prevention & Optimal Performance- Targeting those tight muscles and learning how to properly foam roll to release that tightness, Jason Levy, DC

Meet the Speakers:

 Adam Kahn, PA-c, ATC, Adam is the manager of Atlantic Sports Health, a physician assistant for Dr. Damion Martins and is periodically found in the operating room as a first assist to several orthopedic surgeons in Atlantic Health System. Adam began his career as an Athletic Trainer at Hofstra University before finishing his education and graduating as a Physician Assistant from Yale University. Since then he has played an integral part in expanding the sports medicine department at Atlantic Sports Health, offering a wide range of care for sports related injuries.

 

 Mary Finckenor, RD, CDE, BC-ADM, CSSD, Dieitian, Sports Nutritionist, Diabetes & Cardiac Health Educator. Mary is a registered dietitian with a Master's Degree in Nutrition Education. She also holds specialty certifications in diabetes and sports nutrition. Mary currently works at the Cardiac Rehab Department at the Chambers Center for Wellbeing at Atlantic Health System and a consultant with Atlantic Sports Health. Mary also teaches cooking classes and speaks to corporations in the greater metropolitan area about improving their lifestyles through diet and exercise.

 

 Kelsey Pengitore, ATC, FMS, RYT200, Kelsey is an athletic trainer at Atlantic Sports Health's Sports Physical Therapy and Rehabiliation department at 111 Madison Avenue. After starting at Atlantic Health in 2015 she has created several programs within the Physical Therapy department including, stretch therapy, concussion rehab, post rehab training using the Functional Movement Screen and her yoga training. One of the most notable programs she helped begin is the Amplified Musculoskeletal Pain Program (AMPS), a non-profit designed for adolescents who have this specific disorder. She also provides sideline coverage for various High School football teams and Skyland Kings ice hockey team.

 

 Jason Levy, DC, Team Chiropractor for the New York Jets (NFL), New York Red Bulls (MLS) & New Jersey Devils (NHL), Dr. Levy is the director of the Advanced Performance and Rehabilitation Center and was voted 2011 Sports Chiropractor of the Year by the Association of New Jersey Chiropractors Sports Council. He received his post-graduate distinction of Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician by the American Chiropractic Board of Sports Phyiscians (ACBSP) in 2003 and continues to attend post graudate programs and seminars to stay informed of the latest advances in care. Dr. Levy is also certified in Active Release Techaniques (ART) and is a Certified Kinesio Taping Practictioner (CKTP).
