What to Bring
What NOT to Bring
Not all items are appropriate for a large youth setting. Please do not bring objectionable or illegal items. The following is a list of items that would not be appropriate for Fall Workshop:
Youth Service Fund
During Fall Workshop, there will be a YSF store where youth can purchase hot hands, hot chocolate, snacks, and fair-trade jewelry from India. There will also be auctions where youth and counselors can bid on fake mustaches, bubbles, and rare Fall Workshop memorabilia and more! All of the money raised from the store and auctions goes to the Youth Service Fund (YSF) which is the global United Methodist mission fund supported by youth. Through YSF, United Methodist teens raise money for other teens doing ministry in their churches, communities, and the world. Thirty percent of the money raised goes back to the global church’s YSF account to help on a global level and 70% stays here in the West Virginia Annual Conference to help youth serve locally and globally. In 2017 alone YSF has given out $4,900 in support of youth serving in Kenya, Cuba, and South Africa.
For more information about YSF, or to apply for assistance from YSF, please contact Shea James, Director of Young Disciples and Outdoor Ministries sjames@wvumc.org.
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Hebrews 12:1-2
Not all of us enjoy running. To be honest, if I’m running, there is probably something chasing me! But every human being, regardless of our physical fitness, is part of a race called life. As Christians, we fix our eyes on Jesus as we run the race. Jesus helps us understand who we are, set our priorities, and shows us how to approach the challenges that are a part of life.
If you’ve ever prepared for a competition, you know that it takes practice, dedication, and a teacher/coach/mentor to show you how to perfect your craft. Whether you’re running, singing, or earning a badge as a scout - preparation is the key to success and training takes time! As Christians, we take time to spend with Jesus, our life coach, we pray, read scripture, and join together with other Christians, so we can run the race of life well. Join us November 16-18 at Cedar Lakes to gather with other young people who are eager to Run the Race!
Peace,
Shea James
