Fishy Conifers and their Scales

A look at their scale-like leaves and the imposters to true cedars

What is it with many of our conifers that are known by names and aliases that are misleading?

Some conifer trees with scale-like leaves seem to be imposters. There are cedars that are actually a species of juniper and not a true cedar, cypresses that look like junipers, and cedars that look like other false cedars but are in a different family altogether! We will look at some of these trees on our tree walk, with the main focus being ones with scale like leaves.

Come and maybe we can snag a few clues as to which tree is which on this FREE naturalist walk lead by Arboretum Naturalist Bob Chicken on Saturday, October 13th.

There will be one tour at 9:30am and the walk will be 45 minutes to 1 hour long. Please dress apropriately for the weather and walking approximately 1 mile.
