Sandtray Certificate Program in MD

Become proficient in Sandtray Play Therapy with up to 48 hours of training!

This training IS NOT apart of Track A. Track A members will be asked to pay full price upon registration.

About:

This is a four-level training that allows participants to engage both children and adults in sandtray therapy. A total of 48 continuing education hours will be awarded upon completion of the program.
The last two levels are for those who would like to learn couples and group work using sandtray. An additional 24 continuing education hours will be offered.   
 
This training is truly unique as it includes didactic, experiential, live demonstration and case studies.
We are offering an exclusive closed group for a limited number of therapists (14), to ensure optimal learning.  Participants are expected to attend all four levels. An array of miniatures, and sandtray tools will be available for use. Clinical supervision for sandtray will be provided for guidance and feedback for an additional cost.

Workshop Information:

Level 1 - Introduction to Sandtray

December 9 & 10

Description:

Day #1:  An overview of the history and development of therapeutic use of sand and miniatures, differentiation of the original Sandplay therapy from Sandtray Play therapy, an exploration of the tools and practice technique of Sandplay/Sandtray therapy, child case presentation, and experiential exercise. 

Day #2:  Understanding symbolic imagery, why Sandplay/Sandtray play therapy is effective with trauma.  Adolescent and adult case material, experiential exercise.

Level 2 - Water & Deepening

February 3 & 4

 Description:

The use of water in Sandplay will be introduced as participants experience the many benefits and healing powers of water.  The skill of deepening will be taught and demonstrated. The symbolic meaning of water and sand will be demonstrated. Additionally, the relationship between water and the ability to deepen the client's expression of trauma and inner child play will be highlighted. The various tools used for water play and how each one of these tools impact the client's ability to express their inner worlds will be experienced and reviewed. In addition, participants will be able to witness a live role-play of a water world and the use of fire in water, allowing the client to access the subconcious and release repressed emotions.

Level 3 - Colored Sand and Amplification

March 3rd & 4th

Description:

Participants will be introduced to colored and textured sand and experience the benefits and healing powers of color, and its symbolic meaning. Colored sand can be used as a tool for Amplification that allows the therapist to gently propel the client to go past their resisitance and gain new perspectives of their situation. In this level, participants will also learn how to observe themes and loops, which happens after several worlds have been built. Additionaly, the therapist will learn how to highlight patterns in the client's worlds to further enhance self-awareness. This process propels the client to even greater advancement, enabling them to reach treatment goals quickly and effectively. Discussion of the Jungian transformational process will be reviewed through practice and case studies.

Level 4 - Transference and Counter-transference/ Attachment Repairing

March 31st & April 1st

Description:

Participants will learn how to be aware of, and deal with transference and counter-transference in sand tray therapy. Sandtray therapy has the potentilal to heal unhealthy attachments which will be highlighted through role-play and case studies. The ability to repair unhealthy attachments will be experienced both through the sand, water and play, as well as through the role of the therapist as a model for healthy attachment. In addition, Sandtray picture journals and slideshows will be demonstrated and created by the participants. This technique serves as a testimony to the hard work the client has accomplished in therapy, as well as a tool to include the parents in their child's progress. The therapist can utilize this technique as a way to concretize the client's progress, re-evaluate future treatment goals or begin a plan for termination.

Advanced Levels: For Partcipants who are interested in using Sandplay with groups, families and couples

Level 5 - Sandplay with couples and Filial Relationships

Description:

Participants will experience building worlds with another person. these skills can be used with couples or any other relationships, such as father and child, mother and child, siblings and friends. Basic couple and filial therapy techniques will be introduced and taught through sandtray. Prticipants will experience the healing power of highlighting key relational dynamics that are mirrored during the sand play. The cycle of abuse, such as passive-aggresive and aggressive behaviors are played out during the sandplay interactions, and participants will learn how to observe and mirror them to their clients. Participants will learn how to utilize sandtray as a safe and secure modality for setting healthy boundaries, heakling relationships and breaking out of co-dependency. Participants will also learn how to incorporate countertransference as a tool for deepening the relationship between the couple or filial pair.

Level 6 - Sandplay in Group Therapy

Description:

Sandtray in group therapy will be discussed and demonstrated. Group dynamics and theories will be introduced as participants experience building worlds in a group setting. Participants will be able to witness how sandtray strengthens group work. Use of Sandtray in groups  to help children strengthen social skills such as expressive communication, dealing with peer pressure, bullying, teasing, and conflict resolution.

     Written cancellation must be received in our office at least ten working days prior to the training. A $25.00 processing fee will be deducted from your refund. Otherwise, a voucher will be given. If you do not notify us a minimum of ten business days prior to the training of your intent to cancel, you will not receive a refund or credit.  Chesapeake Beach Professional Seminars reserves the right to cancel a training or workshop due to inclement weather or not enough attendance.  In this event, CBPS will provide you with a full refund.  In the event of inclement weather please check your email for CBPS notifications/instructions and/or voicemail phone system.

Change of Instructors:

     CBPS also reserves the right to change instructors if needed to ensure an effective training.  In the event that this takes place you will be notified with the change as soon as possible.

Chesapeake Beach Professional Seminars (CBPS), approval number provider #1602, is approved as a provider for continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards, www.aswb.org. ASWB Approval Period from 5/14/2018 to 5/14/2019.  CBPS maintains responsibility for the program. Social workers should contact their regulatory board to determine course approval. Social workers will receive 6 continuing education clock hours in participating in this course.

CE Certificates:

 After completion of the workshop, participants who have provided payment, indicated attendance via signature & initials on the sign-in sheet that is provided at the workshop, and have completed an evaluation of the course will be given a CE certificate via hard-copy which will be presented at the close of the workshop upon completion of the course evaluation.  A sign-in/sign-out sheet will be provided at the workshop.  In order to receive credit, all participants must indicate attendance by both signing in and out.
