RESCHEDULED! Concepts in Audio/Video Preservation (10/10/18)

This webinar was originally planned for 9/19/2018 but has been rescheduled for 10/10/2018

With the proliferation of aging formats that are becoming increasingly difficult to playback and access, audiovisual media collections are among the most challenging for us to care for.

This webinar introduces participants to issues in audiovisual preservation, beginning with basic terminology and a broad discussion of developments in audiovisual preservation. This session will cover risks facing audiovisual materials and the major strategies being used in cultural heritage institutions to care for them over time.

Participants will walk away with a solid understanding of how to devise next steps for their AV collections and where to find more information.

  Virtual Trainer: Frances Harrell, NEDCC

Along with providing training and consultations, Senior Preservation Specialist Frances Harrell serves as the co-chair of the Preservation Outreach Committee at ALA. She is the project manager for NEDCC’s “Digital Assessment Training: Building a Framework, Building a Community,” funded by a grant from NEH. The project will present a collaborative digital assessment training program, which will approach digital preservation and training through case-study assessments, shadowing opportunities, workshops, and a Digital Assessment Institute. She received an MLIS from Simmons College GSLIS and a BA in English Literature from the University of Florida, and has worked in both development and collections management. Frances works remotely from her office in the southeast and is a resource for the region.

This is an online class. Access information will be emailed one week ahead.

Cost: NEFLIN classes are free of charge for Florida library staff. Registration is required for all classes and NEFLIN members get priority.
