Play Therapy with Gender Diverse & LGBTQIA Youth
|
Description:
More than ever previously noted, increasing numbers of children and young people are identifying as gender diverse & LGBTIA. They and their families are presenting for support in youth serving agencies, children’s hospitals, medical clinics, and family service agencies. This interactive and experiential workshop provides a supportive and encouraging opportunity for play therapists who want to learn how to enhance their play therapy skills with gender diverse & LGBTQIA youth. It explores recent clinical trends as associated with treatment of gender issues in children and adolescents. It also captures the unique traumatic challenges faced by this vulnerable and resilient population. Reflection introspection and supportive dialogue will be primary didactic tools. Xanthia Johnson has over a decade of experience working with and supporting this population in the play therapy room.
