America and the World: Challanges for the Middle East

Join the World Affairs Council Upstate and Furman University for the sixth presentation of our second annual America and the World Lecture Series, a lecture on Middle East instability by Furman professor Dr. Buket Oztas.

From elections to refugee crises, ISIL, shifting alliances and Jerusalem – instability continues to mark the Middle East.  Turmoil across the Middle East makes it harder to narrow down the main political issues, but the Syrian crisis, the fate of refugees, elections, and terrorists top the list. Dr. Buket Oztas will shed light on these and other issues, as well as answer your questions.

Dr. Oztas is a professor of Politics and International Affairs at Furman  buket oztas furman University. Her expertise is in Comparative Politics, with a regional focus on the Middle East. Her research interests fall broadly in the fields of political Islam and regime transitions in the Islamic world.
