Emergency Preparedness for

People with Disabilities

Creating an emergency preparedness plan is important for everyone, and often requires additional resources when planning for a person with a disability affecting mobility, hearing, learning, or seeing.  In addition, people with disabilities may need additional strategies to manage communications, equipment, service animals, pets and home hazards.

This workshop will provide information on how to help people with disabilities to develop an emergency preparedness plan. Training objectives will include:

  • How to identify local hazards
  • Preparing to shelter in place
  • Communicating property specific information
  • Hazard reduction in the home

About the speaker:

Cecilia Warren is the Director of Emergency Preparedness Policy for the Maryland Department of Disabilities.
