Culturally Responsive Problem-Solving and Evaluation Teams
Presented by Markeda Newell, PhD, Loyola University

The purpose of this session is to learn strategies that will help teams reduce bias while also increasing the accuracy with which they identify problems, collect data, and design interventions to improve student outcomes. Attendees will learn how to recognize when bias is impacting decision-making, identify low-inference, alterable hypotheses, reframe inappropriate hypotheses, and develop data collection and interventions that align with culturally responsive practices.

Markeda Newell, PhD is an Associate Professor and Chair in School Psychology at Loyola University Chicago. Dr. Newell earned her B.S in Elementary Education from the University fo Southern Mississippi, and she went on to earn her M.S. and PhD in Educational Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The focus of her research is on multicultural training, school-based consultation in multicultural contexts, and social justice training for students.
