Author Bill Double will present his book Charles E. Hires and the Drink That Wowed a Nation, which is an effervescent biography of Charles Elmer Hires, the Philadelphia pharmacist who introduced root beer to the American public. Books will be available for purchase.
Hires introduced his root beer at the 1876 Centennial Exposition Hires along with an historic advertising campaign - 10 years before Coca-Cola. Charles Hires blazed the trail for the development of the American soft drink industry.
