Join us for a day hike in and around scenic Cades Cove, and learn about the lives of the settlers in the area. While there, we'll visit as many cemeteries as possible. In no particular order, we'll stop at the Post, Boring, Lequire, Robert Burchfield, Davis and Hilltop cemeteries and discuss the history of settlers to the area and their burial customs.
If time allows we'll visit a former Civilian Conservation Corps camp location, old homesites and the location of the Ekaneetlee Lodge, where Eleanor Roosevelt once stayed, as well as John D. Rockefeller.
Both Mark and Janet are members of Great Smoky Mountains Association, Cades Cove Preservation Association, Little River RR & Lumber Museum and Smoky Mountains Hiking Club. In addition, they maintain a section of the Appalachian Trail inside Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
Other highlights of this trip will include the potential for spotting wildlife in their natural habitat, late-season autumn foliage and creek and mountain scenes.
