The Message Is In The Details: Nonverbal Communication - Webinar (01/15/19)

A handful of simple physical behaviors can have a positive effect on your interactions with library customers, coworkers, employees,  and bosses. The look on your face, the tone of your voice, your posture, and your gestures can influence their emotions, their responses to you, and how they feel about your requests for action. (Another benefit: Can improve your mood as well!) For example, studies have shown that the silent nonverbal behaviors of proctors overseeing classroom exams can even influence test scores. These actions can be readily practiced, mastered, and tested in workplace and personal situations.

Learn the difference between “warm” and “cool” behaviors, the importance of how quickly (pace) you talk and how close you stand (space), and why these techniques can work with people from most cultures.

Virtual Trainer: Pat Wagner

Pat Wagner has been a library consultant and trainer since 1978. She has a liberal arts degree with a double major in performance and written communication and is a frequent visitor, online and in person, with Florida libraries. She says her theater training and work with children has taught her as much or more about human performance as her classes in psychology and anthropology. Pat is known for her good humored and practical programs.

This is an online class. Access information will be emailed one week ahead.

Cost: NEFLIN classes are free of charge for Florida library staff. Registration is required for all classes and NEFLIN members get priority.
