Upstate Education Spectrum
Work Group Meeting

Exploring Teacher Recruitment & Retention

Thursday, November 8th
1:00 - 3:00 PM

On September 20th, leaders from K-12, Higher Education, Economic/Workforce Development and business and industry from across the Upstate convened for the Education Spectrum Fall Forum.

During the forum, the primary discussion revolved around the region's teacher shortage.  After hearing more about the issue from the state perspective as well as the impact it has on businesses and educators, forum attendees participated in small group discussions around four aspects of the teacher shortage.  Organizational representives were identified to serve on a work group to help address these challenges.

The goal of the work group - composed of representatives from school districts, institutions of higher education, and business across the Upstate's ten counties - is to identify and execute action steps that help address the teacher recruitment and retention challenge.  The work group will meet periodically, beginning on November 8th, and present to the Education Spectrum forum in Spring 2019.
