The  Center for Autism Research (CAR) is a collaborative research center between The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and the University of Pennsylvania. CAR's primary mission is to understand the causes of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and develop effective treatments through research with infants through adults. Families who participate receive comprehensive assessment reports and are paid for their time and some travel expenses. CAR is also committed to serving the needs of families living with ASD through education and guidance. The new CAR Autism Roadmap seeks to help families answer questions about life with autism, whether they are new to the diagnosis or have lived with it for years, as well as connect them with resources in their communities via the CAR Resource Directory.

Introductory/ Clinical Training Workshop:

Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule- 2nd Edition (ADOS-2)

- A training for clinicians-

The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia's Center for Autism Research (CAR) is pleased to offer a 2-day Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS-2) Introductory/ Clinical Training Workshop January 22-23, 2019.

This ADOS-2 training provides experienced autism professionals with introductory training on the use of the ADOS-2 to assess and diagnose autism spectrum disorder (ASD) across ages, developmental levels, and language skills. The training will be led by Dr. Whitney Guthrie, a certified ADOS-2 trainer and co-author of the ADOS-2 Toddler Module.

The ADOS-2 Introductory/ Clinical Workshop is a 2-day introductory training that provides clinicians with the skills necessary to utilize ADOS-2 in clinical settings. This workshop uses a lecture format and live demonstrations to introduce the basic principles of administering and scoring ADOS-2 Modules 1 through 4 and provides an essential step toward competence in using the ADOS-2 in everyday clinical practice or for research purposes. Participants will gain fundamental understanding of Modules 1-4, in addition to experience observing and scoring two ADOS-2 assessments with the support of a certified trainer.

This workshop is designed for clinicians with prior background in ASD and format testing such as clinical psychologists, psychiatrists, pediatricians, speech-language pathologists, school psychologists, social workers, behavior analysts, occupational therapists, and other clinicians/researchers working in ASD assessment. The ADOS-2 Introductory/Clinical Training also serves as a mandatory prerequisite for the Advanced/Research Workshop, intended for those who want to use the ADOS-2 for research purposes or who want additional training beyond the 2-day Introductory /Clinical Training.

The ADOS-2 is a semi-structured, standardized assessment of social communication and play or imaginative use of materials used with individuals suspected of having ASD. The ADOS-2 can be used to evaluate individuals of different developmental levels and chronological ages, from toddlers to adults, from individuals with no speech to those who are verbally fluent. It takes about 30-45 minutes to administer.
