Speaker Bios

 

 Gary Maler, Director: Gary's role is shaping the culture of the Center, recruiting talent, setting the general direction, implement strategy and then providing leadership to help accomplish great things. Along the way, he cultivates strong relationships with the business community, the university and state officials. Gary's personal passions include strategic thinking, qualitative research and creative pursuits in indigenous Texas architecture. He has been with the Center since 1978.

 Dr. James Gaines, Chief Economist: Jim focuses on land development issues. He has more than 35 years experience in a broad array of professional real estate activities and has provided consulting services to numerous businesses, institutions, developers, and all levels of government organizations. He served as President of Rice Center, an urban research center affiliated with Rice University and was an associate professor of real estate and finance at the University of South Carolina.

 Gerald Klassen, Research Data Scientist: Every organization needs a data visionary. Gerald is ours. Not only is he the Center's first-ever research data scientist, he's the first one ever hired at Texas A&M University. In this role, he leads the Center in the 'big data' revolution. Using sophisticated database architecture and skilled software programmers, Gerald explores massive amounts of data to uncover patterns and relationships vital to researchers determining what is happening and will happen in Texas real estate.

 Clare Losey: Clare Losey is a Ph.D. student at Texas A&M University in Urban and Regional Science. Her research focus primarily on housing affordability, with particular emphasis on mechanisms for improving the access of low-income households to affordable housing in high-quality neighborhoods.
